  I need help in dealing with a toxic family member!!!!

  i have a close family member who is a pro in using shame to try to make me feel bad.

  they are coming to stay at my place soon and the issue of me and mrs hoser not attending/ doing field service will come up no doubt.. i need some advice on how to deal with this because whenever i deal with these relatives they make me feel worthless.

  it is probably part because they are jw's and jw's motivate by fear and guilt.. .

  Ding and Hortensia have golden advice . It just takes showing them you are no longer affected by the emotional manipulation anymore .Now that they are visiting your home it is "your roof your rules " ,and it is okay to set boundaries with them .

  How Cold is it Where You Are?

  with the polar vortex swirling further and further south and breaking records how cold is it where you are?.

  here in gettysburg pa last night night we hit a low of -4 degrees but we were blessed with some wind that dropped the wind chill down to -22..

  Yesterday was BAD ...-18 F with winds of 20 -30 mph ,at times the windchill was -50 . Today the winds have calmed down a bit temps are still below zero though . The road my husband had to take to work was drifted over @5am ,white out in spots ,but somehow he plowed his way through and made it to work .

  My work has been cancelled for two days so I have not left the house .

  My little dog went out to do his business yesterday evening and within two minutes he could not walk back to the house ! I had to go out ,and carry him .He acted like he was in slow motion trying to move his legs . Once inside he warmed back up and was fine .

  New Year Resolution: A new recipe every week

  we decided we don't cook enough and are pretty bored of what we usually eat (whether home-made or eating out).. so .... our new years resolution for 2014 is to try a new recipe every week.. so far we've done some jamie olivers roasted vegetables and right now we're making cornish-like pasties.

  apparently, people are very militant about exactly what a cornish pastie is so our's are cornish-like because dammit, we wanted peas and carrots and whatever seasoning we wanted to stick in there too!.

  smells delicious and can't wait to eat them.. i also invented a new dish using a leftover half-tin of garden peas and a slice of bread.

  We visited the Upper Peninsula of Michigan a few yrs ago ,and became acquainted with Welsh Pasties . As soon as we got back home we had to make them ourselves ,turned out pretty well .( i like to add in things of my own too )

  Elders and spying eyes

  is it normal for the elders in your congregation to spy on you through your wife?

  texting her to see whats up with you and what your doing or saying etc.

  using her as the in house spy???

  BTW ....it use to be said texting someone of the opposite sex that is not your own wife is paramount to dating ! Do you remember that from counsel to teenagers ? They absolutely should not be texting your wife !!

  The only reason Elders get away with this kind of crap is because enough people allow it it ,and don't stand up to them .

  You first need to have an understanding with your wife as others have stated above . She should not share family business with these men about you . It is in their own publications that the husband is the head of the household ,even IF he is an unbeliever .They may use the excuse they are looking out for her spiritual interests ,but this is a lie because they could do that without interrogating her about you . You need to immediately contact them and forbid this kind of behavior . Call HQ if necessary stating these men are causing division within the household and are over-stepping the bounds with your wife .

  Even if they argue that they are only sheparding her ,if you speak up and make it known to the CO,DO,or HQ they will be forced to watch their selves from here on out .

  she is feeling the effects of the ice storm and is all alone and it is christmas eve.

  Naughtiness in my bathroom

  i have some guests coming over to spend xmas with me for a couple of days.

  they are my friends family and i have a larger place than them and am playing host.. dilemma.

  they are christians and i have some postcards in my bathroom that are slightly naughty.

  You are asking so obviously you must have an inkling they are inappropriate for your guests ,mainly the children .

  I say just take them down, it isn't that difficult to put them back up after they leave . You also could just ask them to use a different bathroom .

  Our teenagers first Christmas tree

  we had fun putting together our first artificial tree last week, it came out so pretty!

  the lights and cheap ornaments just add to it.. we have been careful to close our blinds at night to avoid our jw neighbors from calling in the elders, that worked for a few days until we decided to go out for an early dinner and yes, i forgot to close the blinds!

  as we drove up to the garage door i could see the tree in the front room and started to freak out a little.

  I am so happy for you and your family . Doesn't it feel great to be moving on and slowly getting over the fear ? I remember feeling I had to hide the tree that first year. I look back now ,and feel a little silly .

  My husband too was not to game for having a tree ,but oh my goodness what a couple of years of freedom have done for him ! He now decorates the whole house outside with a computer run music and light show ! He is out of control ....in a good way .

  I am trying to make special memories with our adult kids .Sending each other presents , having them buy an ornament every year I can put up and save for each year . We search for vintage ornaments depicting the years we have missed . Family dinners ,baking cookies with younger relatives ect.

  WELCOME JEN1 , You are not alone ....sadly so many good people have been beaten down emotionally in the organization just like you .

  ' I consider myself to be a kind hearted person. Caring. The problem is jws make you feel bad/wicked for not going on service/not attending meetings/not being on service meeting/etc etc etc. And that eats away at you. '

  Exactly how I began to feel while in the religion . Instead of being built up and engouraged for just being a caring good person you are torn down ,because 'your numbers' are not good enough .

  I am so glad you found this site and are now beginning the healing process . Be free . Enjoy your life .
